In Beef Magazine (Oct. 19), Nevil Speer summarizes Circana/210 Analytics data: September beef pound sales rose 3.8% from a year earlier and beef dollar sales 5.0%, while chicken (+0.7% pounds, −1.2% dollars) and pork (+0.5%, −2.2%) lagged. Over the past 52 weeks, beef accounted for $3.52 billion of the $4.37 billion rise in fresh-meat sales (80.5%). Retail Choice beef did slip 28.5 cents a pound in September, but with demand this strong, don't hold out for a big drop in premium ribeye prices. Where these ribeyes come from: D'Artagnan's Grass-Fed Beef Ribeye Steak listing says "Product of Australia" (a ranch cooperative in Southern Australia and Tasmania), while its Angus and American Wagyu ribeyes say Product of USA. Beef Central reported on Oct. 7, 2026 that Australia shipped a record 378,658 tonnes of beef to the U.S. in the first nine months of 2026, up 15% on last year, with the U.S. cattle herd near 70-year lows. Most of that is frozen lean beef for grinding, not steaks, but it shows how much of America's beef now comes from Australia.
