New grass-fed research, with caveats: a UC Davis study in The Journal of Nutrition (Tolentino, Vahmani et al., online Oct. 12, 2026) fed obese-prone mice high-fat diets made with pork fat, grain-fed beef fat or grass-fed beef fat for 16 weeks. Compared with pork fat, both beef fats cut inguinal fat about 30% and improved glucose tolerance about 17%, with no grass-vs-grain difference on those. Grass-fed fat did show lower inflammatory markers (resistin ~30% below the other two; IL-6 ~70% below pork) and more omega-3s in blood and fat. Heads-up for freezer hunters: FSIS issued a March 2026 public health alert (not a recall) for one White Oak Pastures grassfed ground beef lot (105761, produced Feb 26, 2026, sell-by Mar 19) over possible metal contamination after two consumer complaints. Product was already off shelves; no injuries reported. If that lot is still in a freezer, discard or return.
